3LHD architects: zagreb dance center

photo by sandro lendler 3LHD just completed their latest project in zagreb, croatia, transforming the city’s old lika cinema into
the zagreb dance center.  the project began in 2003 and construction just wrapped up this fall. the project
boasts 1438m2 of area including a large scale performance space and two smaller rehearsal rooms.
the city has a long history of dance culture and now boasts over 40 dance troops which will use the new
space for practicing and performances. dressing rooms, storage space and offices take up much of the
other space in the new complex. while the architects mainly reworked the cinema’s existing shell, they
added a new entrance lobby that connects the café, library and a video store. most noteworthy is the
preservation and restoration of the roof top terrace, which is the city’s last open roof stage.
